Last Friday our new friends Connie & Wally that we met 6 weeks ago were back to their boat for the weekend. It was great to see them & we’re confident that our paths will cross again someday as we continue our travels (they’re not quite ready to retire, but they’re thinking about it)! Friday night we had dinner at a seafood restaurant across the river. Also joining us were Margie & Jim off “Ping” — fellow loopers out of Oxford, Maryland. Margie & Jim lived for many years in Rochester, NY, are former sailors, & we know many of the same people from our days at the Youngstown Yacht Club.
On Saturday we went to Pensacola to visit see a marine consignment shop (which was closed). But we did stop at an antique store & found a table for the sundeck (to replace the card table that we’ve been using). Hank’s refinishing it — not bad for a $40 table! (as opposed to the $500 one that I’d been considering). On our way back to Mobile we went thru Orange Beach & stopped to see Connie & Wally’s lovely condo that they’ll eventually retire to. The four of us ended up at LuLu’s Restauant for a late lunch. LuLu is Jimmy Buffet’s sister & the restaurant certainly reminds us of him. Food’s pretty good & it’s right on the ICW so we’ll probably stop there on our way by in the next few days..
Boats continue to come & go at the marina. Most have been sailboats coming down the TennTom & headed for warmer waters. A few are boats headed west to Texas & Louisana. A sailboat here from Pickwick, TN. Mike Evans, a banker from Memphis, who’s taking a 6 month leave to go sailing. He graduated from my high school — Northside in Jackson (15 years after me) & his parents live in Bells. Small world!
